Nguyet and Tara,

When something special happens at the Wall it is called "Wall Magic".  Such as somebody spotting a name they have been looking for or meeting a long lost friend at the Wall. This Saturday, when you both took advantage of addressing the kids in that "teachable" moment - the Wall magic happened again. This magical moment happened because of the skills and compassion you both have.  At that moment, it was so easy to feel your positive energy.

When I saw the semicircle of kids and teachers gathered around you both, I realized that those kids and teachers were truly lucky. They were being taught a lesson in history from two people that actually took part in those events of Vietnam history. How fortunate these kids were.  The moment could have passed where the kids left the Wall less educated. However, both of you wouldn't let that happen. The important thing is, these kids learned about Amerasians from two caring people.

Because of you both, an important part of American/Vietnamese history that could be lost is being preserved and the soft but direct way you spoke of discrimination was so educational for both the white kids and kids of color and the adults. Now, because of you two, many of the kids will now never forget this part of history.   They will never forget because of the way both of you teach - with clarity, passion and from the heart. 

Saturday morning you proved that you were both born to be teachers, regardless of the  professions you follow.  Teaching is something you both must do.  On that gray November morning, you both created educational sunshine at the Wall apex.  You made the Saturday Wall event greatly more memorable.

You both couldn't not have done better at the chapter meeting.  Your presentations were simple, informative and again from the heart.  Your message was heard.  You both, together, make a great team.  The world learns a lot because of your energy and abilities to educate.
